How to Open a Chase Account?
You can open an account online or in-person at a Chase branch location. You will need your:
- Primary (e.g., driver's license and state ID) and Secondary ID (e.g., Social Security card)[1]
- Social Security number
- Contact information (name, home address, email address, phone number)
- Money for opening deposit
You'll need to fill out the application and decide what type of account you would like to open. You're also required to make an initial monetary deposit to open a Chase account.

Chase Bank is a member of the FDIC(FDIC# 628).[2] Every customer's funds are insured up to $250,000 in the unlikely event that the bank fails.

Types of Accounts
Chase offers several tiers of checking and savings accounts. Each account grants its owner access to all of the bank's physical locations and ATMs as well as Chase's online banking and mobile app.
Chase's checking and savings accounts charge monthly maintenance fees. Depending on the account, it is possible to waive these charges if you maintain a certain minimum balance or make consistent monthly deposits.

Chase First Banking℠
Chase First Banking is a debit card for kids age 6-17 with $0 monthly service fee. You must be an existing Chase checking customer to open a Chase First Banking account.

Chase Total Checking®: $12 ($15, effective August 24, 2025) or $0 with one of the following, each monthly statement period
- Electronic deposits made into this account totaling $500 or more, such as payments from payroll providers or government benefit providers, by using (i) the ACH network, (ii) the Real Time Payment or FedNow℠ network, (iii) third party services that facilitate payments to your debit card using the Visa® or Mastercard® network,
- OR a balance at the beginning of each day of $1,500 or more in this account,
- OR an average beginning day balance of $5,000 or more in any combination of this account and linked qualifying Chase checking, savings, and other balances.
Chase Premier Plus CheckingSM: Charges $25 per month
Waive that fee by meeting ONE of these conditions:[3]
- Keep an average beginning day balance of $15,000 across this account and your linked qualifying deposits or investments.
- Have a linked qualifying Chase first mortgage enrolled in your account's automatic payments.
- Current members and veterans of the US Armed Forces with qualifying military ID.
Chase Secure BankingSM: Charges $4.95 per month
Avoid the monthly service fee when you have electronic deposits made into the account totaling $250 or more during each monthly statement period.[4]
Chase College CheckingSM: Charges $12 per month ($15 effective 8/24/2025)
Monthly service fee is waived for college students while in school up to the graduation date provided at account opening (five years maximum) for students 17-24 years old.
The monthly service fee is $12 ($15 effective 8/24/2025) after the expected graduation date or $0 if you do at least one of the following each statement period[5]
- Have electronic deposits made into this account totaling $500 or more, such as payments from payroll providers or government benefit providers, by using (i) the ACH network, (ii) the Real Time Payment or FedNow network, or (iii) third party services that facilitate payment to your debit card using the Visa® or Mastercard® network

Chase High School CheckingSM: Charges $0 per month

- For students ages 13-17 with their parent/guardian as a co-owner and the account linked to the parent/guardian's personal checking account.
- Linked accounts exclude: Chase High School CheckingSM, Chase College CheckingSM, Chase Secure CheckingSM and Chase First CheckingSM.
- Once the student turns 19, the account will convert to Chase Total Checking account
