Get paid faster when you set up direct deposit with Chase. Here's how to get started below, plus how long it takes to get your money.

Direct deposit is a popular, convenient and secure way to send or receive payments.

If you're not already enjoying direct deposits with Chase, stick around. Below, find out how to set it up and how long it will take to clear funds.

What is Direct Deposit?

Direct deposit lets you automatically deposit paychecks and other income into your savings or checking account. It's a convenient way to send or receive money without paper checks.

You can set up direct deposits for:

  • Payroll
  • Social security and other supplemental benefits
  • Tax refunds or government stimulus payments
  • Child support and maintenance
  • Pay bills

Direct deposits are quick, safe and pretty hands-off. When someone sends you money, you don't need to accept the payment into your account. If you're paying with direct deposit, your checking balance will decrease once the payments leave your bank account.

How to Set Up Chase Direct Deposit?

Take a look at how to set up direct deposit with Chase below.

  1. Sign into Chase.com or the Chase mobile app
  2. Click "Account Services" (the three dots next to your checking account)

  3. Choose "Set up direct deposit"

  4. Download the pre-filled Chase direct deposit form OR download the general direct deposit request form

  5. Give the form and a voided Chase check to your employer's payroll department

Next, your employer will deposit into your bank account. It may take up to two pay cycles for your direct deposit to kick in. You can check your monthly paper statement or monitor your online Chase account to verify that when direct deposit begins.

Required Documents for Direct Deposit

This is what you need to set up direct deposit:

  • Your employer's or depositor's name and address
  • You employee ID or account number with depositor
  • Your Chase Bank account number
  • Your Chase Bank routing number
  • A voided check

In some cases, you may need to complete a direct deposit form for your employer or depositor.

Benefits of Direct Deposit

Direct deposit has several advantages, including:

  • No need to cash check by visiting a local branch/ATM or using Chase mobile deposits
  • No waiting on the mail for check
  • No risk of lost or stolen checks
  • Avoid monthly maintenance fees

How Long Does it Take for Chase Direct Deposit to Take Effect?

Direct deposit may take up to two pay cycles to start after you submit the Chase direct deposit form to your HR/payroll department

How do you know if Chase Direct Deposit is set up?
Reach out to your HR or payroll department to confirm. Once they verify it's been set up, you can log into your Chase account online or with the mobile app to see when the direct deposit hits your account.

When Will Funds be Available Through Chase?

Direct deposits usually hit your bank account immediately. And direct deposit funds are available on the same business day that they're sent to the bank.

Generally, Chase prioritizes all deposits including direct deposits before processing withdrawals, purchases and other transactions.

Does Chase process direct deposits on weekends?
All banks, including Chase, must make your deposit available by the next business day, after it receives funds. So, if your employer initiates a payment on Saturday or Sunday, it will hit your account on Monday.

Does Chase Offer Early Direct Deposit?
Chase does not offer early direct deposit. Direct deposit payments will be available the same business day they're made.

Bottom Line

Taking a few minutes to set up with direct deposit gives you quick and easy access to your cash. Plus, you don't need to wait around for your check in the mail. Time to get rid of physical checks - once and for all.

You can enroll in direct deposit with a Chase checking account. If you don't have a bank account with them yet, take a look at their current Chase coupons and bonus codes.
