Saatva promises the sleep quality of luxury hotel beds at an affordable price. Find out if these hybrid mattresses are worth the money.

5-point scale (the higher, the better)

Pros and Cons

  • Comfort for all sleeping positions
  • Multiple firmness options
  • Support for heavier people
  • Some motion transfer
  • No memory foam option
  • $99 transportation fee to return

Bottom Line

Great value for fans of innerspring support

Buying anything sight unseen can be a bit of a gamble. A mattress you'll spend years on is a decision you don't want to regret.

Saatva promises a luxury mattress without the premium price tag. Features like thick coils and an organic cotton top are meant to mimic high-end hotel beds.

But mattresses aren't one size fits all. Side sleepers have different needs than stomach sleepers. Heavy folks need firmer beds than petite people.

Read these Saatva pros, cons, and complaints to learn if it's right for you.

In this article:

Overview: Is This Mattress Your Perfect Fit?

The Saatva Classic innerspring mattress comes in three firmness levels. You'll sink deeper into the Plush Soft version, so it's best for petite sleepers. Luxury Firm and Firm offer more structure. They're great for back and stomach sleepers who need extra support.

The Classic is the mattress that started it all for Saatva, and it's well-loved by many sleepers. Saatva even sets the mattress up in your room for free—super convenient. But it's an online bed, so you can't try it before you buy. (Unless you live near their showroom in New York City.)

You don't want to waste your time with a bed that's not right for you. Here's who the mattress is best suited for:

Saatva makes awesome, high-quality mattresses. But not everyone's impressed. Don't miss the common complaints down below before you make your choice.

Will It Work for Your Sleep Style and Body Type?

Saatva Classic comes in 3 firmness levels to support many types of sleepers. Get comfy with the best model for your sleep style:

Side Sleepers
The Plush Soft bed cushions your hips and shoulders. This is crucial for side sleeping so you don't feel sore from the pressure.

Back Sleepers
Saatva's Luxury Firm works great for all sleep styles, but it really shines for back sleepers. You'll get great support with just enough give to feel comfy on your back.

Stomach Sleepers
The Firm version is perfect for stomach sleepers. The mattress is supportive enough to keep your hips from sinking into the bed.

Couples
Saatva Luxury Firm works for couples in any sleep position. The bed is bouncy, but not so much that you'll wake your partner any time you shift around. It has great edge support, so you can use the whole surface of the bed without falling off.

Body Type
Your body type affects your mattress preferences too. Typically, heavier folks need firmer mattresses for proper support. Check out this chart to see which bed might feel best for you:

Is Saatva Classic good for back pain?
People with back pain need a mattress that keeps the spine aligned. This means your back doesn't curve unnaturally. Each body is different, but Saatva's three firmness levels can offer back pain relief for most sleepers.

How the Mattress Feels

Firmness
Saatva Classic comes in three different firmness levels and two heights: 11.5 inches and 14.5 inches.

On a firmness scale between 1-10 (10 being the hardest), the Plush Soft is rated 3.5. The Luxury Firm model lands between 5-7, and the Firm model is about an 8.

Sleeping Temperature
You won't sleep hot on a Saatva Classic. It's an innerspring mattress, so you'll get plenty of airflow. Out of the three firmness levels, you might feel warmest on the Plush Soft. That's because the soft cushion hugs your body closer, which could trap some heat.

Saatva Mattress Toppers and Pillows
Not 100% happy with your current bed? Saatva also sells 3 toppers to change the feel of your mattress:
  • Graphite to stay cool all night
  • Latex for durable support
  • Foam for body-contouring comfort

You can also choose from their plush Saatva Pillow made with shredded latex or the neck-cradling Memory Foam pillow.

Motion Transfer (Bounce)
Saatva Classic is pretty bouncy because of its coils. There's some motion transfer, which means you might feel when your partner tosses and turns. It's not as bad as some other innersprings. But if it's something that bothers you, try a memory foam mattress instead.

Edge Support
Saatva's edge support is excellent. Most innersprings have good edge support, but Saatva really impresses. Their Dual Torsion Steel Edge Guards reinforces the mattress for secure support all over.

Rule of Thumb
Try Saatva Classic if any of these apply to you:
  • Switch positions throughout the night
  • Sleep with a partner
  • Weigh under 250 lbs

What Is The Saatva Classic Made Of?

Saatva Classic is an innerspring mattress with individually wrapped coils. Take a closer look at the different layers:

  • Euro-Style Pillow Top: The pillow top is like a cloud that cushions your body. It comes with an antimicrobial organic cotton cover.

  • Memory Foam: A thin layer of memory foam helps the bed form to your body. This gives you lumbar support while taking pressure off the spine.

  • Pocketed Coils: These coils are individual wrapped in fabric. This eliminates squeaking and contours the body better than traditional coils.

  • Traditional Innersprings: A second layer of coils rests below the pocketed coils. You get extra support without the bed feeling too hard and uncomfortable. It's also great for airflow to keep you cool.

  • Edge Support Foam: Polyfoam wraps around the bed and reinforces the edges. You won't feel like falling off when you sit on the side of the bed.

Unlike purely memory foam mattresses, the Classic provides a good balance of cushion and support, comparable to beds found in luxury hotels.

How Much You'll Pay

Saatva mattresses are priced fairly given their high-quality construction and performance. The cost of your mattress will depend on the size and model.

The price for each size is the same no matter which firmness or height you pick:

Saatva also sells foundations, bases, and bed frames designed to work with their mattresses.

White Glove Delivery & Mattress Removal
When you buy a mattress, Saatva offers free white glove delivery. This means they'll set up your new bed in your room for you. They'll also remove up to two pieces (usually the mattress and box spring) of your old bed at no cost.

Choose your delivery day and get a 4-hour arrival window. Once they show up with your mattress, drivers will wait an additional 20 minutes in case of delays.

Do Saatva mattresses go on sale?
Saatva does not offer sales, coupons, or promo codes. Instead, they promise to deliver premium mattresses with transparent pricing.

However, they do offer a $100 discount to active-duty military members, veterans, first responders, and teachers.

Common Complaints You Should Know

Saatva offers solid options that can work for a wide range of sleepers, but some people may want to look elsewhere to find the right mattress. According to Saatva mattress reviews, you should keep in mind the following concerns:

  • Trial period isn't completely risk-free : Even though you can try your mattress for 180 nights, you'll run into a $99 shipping fee if you return the mattress.

  • No deals available: Saatva doesn't offer sales or coupons for their products.

  • Problems with delivery: Some customers report issues with delays and poor communication from Saatva's delivery company. On average, however, their customer support handles any problems quickly.

  • Not the best for motion isolation: Saatva's mattresses don't transfer as much motion as other innersprings. But if you're a light sleeper, you might be affected by your partner moving around.

The DreamCloud is another hybrid innerspring mattress that promises luxury. It features:

  • Good edge support
  • More of a memory foam feel than Saatva
  • Good motion isolation for an innerspring
  • 365-day trial period

You can get the DreamCloud for around $1,399. The company also runs sales and promotions which can make it cheaper than the Saatva Classic.

What mattresses are used in luxury hotels?
Most hotel brands have exclusive deals with manufacturers. These include:
  • The Four Seasons Mattress by Simmons Bedding Company
  • The Marriott Bed by Jamison

Purple

  • Breathable material that sleeps cool
  • Great motion isolation
  • 100-night trial period

Purple offers cheaper mattresses that range in price between $600 and $2,500.

FAQs

Check out the following common questions about the Saatva mattress to find out if it's right for you.

Can you flip a Saatva mattress?
Saatva's mattresses are not meant to be flipped. We recommend you rotate your mattress every 3-4 months, especially if you sleep on the same side or in the same position every night.

How long do Saatva mattresses last?
Saatva constructs their mattresses to give consistent comfort and support for 10–15 years.

Do Saatva mattresses sag?
Saatva beds have thick steel coils and dense foams that won't wear down quickly. Compared to flimsier, cheap mattresses, Saatva can support more weight without sagging.

Does Saatva offer a warranty?
The Saatva Classic has a 15-year non-prorated warranty. Within the first 2 years of purchase, Saatva will replace your mattress if it is defective. In years after that, they'll repair and re-cover the bed for a $99 transportation charge each way.

If your mattress is defective, Saatva also offers the "Fairness Replacement Option." For a payment of 30%–75% of the original price you paid, they'll send you a brand new mattress.

What is the height of the Saatva mattress?
Saatva Classic is available in 11.5" and 14.5" models, Saatva HD is 15.5" tall, and Saatva Solaire is 13.5" tall.

If you have mobility issues, make sure to get the right mattress height to accommodate your needs. A mattress that's too tall or too short can be difficult to get out of.

Is Saatva a Bed-in-a-Box?
While the Saatva mattress is delivered to your door, it is not considered a bed-in-a-box. The Saatva mattress contains spring, latex, and memory foam layers, and the bed-in-a-box typically refers to strictly mattresses that are rolled, folded, or otherwise compressed to be shipped.

Does Saatva mattress smell?
Some new mattresses smell due to the off-gassing process. According to reviews, Saatva doesn't have this problem because all off-gassing happens before they're shipped to the customer.

Do Saatva mattresses sleep hot?
According to reviews, Saatva mattresses don't sleep hot. Their innerspring mattresses and cooling layers allow for airflow, which prevents their mattresses from trapping heat and ruining the quality of your sleep. This breathability also helps clear the mattress of germs and dust mites.

What is Saatva's trial period?
Saatva gives you 180 nights to try out your mattress, which is a little more time than the standard 100 nights offered by other retailers. If you decide to return the mattress within that time, you can request a pick-up for a full refund. However, there will be a $99 transportation charge, so it's not a completely free return.

Does Saatva offer financing?
Saatva offers 0% financing through Klarna. You can pay with a credit card, PayPal, or Amazon Pay. You're also able to cancel your order without a fee any time prior to the delivery day.

If Saatva's main mattress offerings don't appeal to you, look into the other mattress brands owned by The Saatva Company: the Loom & Leaf memory foam and the Zenhaven latex mattress. When researching mattress, be sure to check out plenty of customer reviews.

Bottom Line

Saatva is a great quality mattress for the price. It's a popular online mattress for a reason. That said, it's not for everyone. If you're a fan of memory foam, you're probably not going to like it. But if you're open to the idea of an innerspring bed, definitely check this one out.

It comes in three firmness levels, which means at least one will likely work for you. You can also try it and return it within 180 days if you don't like it. Just keep in mind that you'll have to pay a $99 transportation fee to send it back.
