How often do you look for your routing number?

Find Your TD Bank Routing Number

A routing number is a 9-digit code that banks use to identify themselves. Think of it as an address that lets other banks know where to find your money.

You need your routing number for many tasks, including:

  • ACH payments
  • Setting up direct deposit
  • Receiving benefits from the government, including tax refunds
  • Transferring money between accounts at different banks or investment firms
  • Automatic bill payment
  • Domestic wire transfers

Here are several other ways to find your TD Bank routing number:

Use a Check
For checking accounts, you can find the routing number in the lower left-hand corner of the checks corresponding with your checking account. It's the first 9 digits located at the bottom of the check.

TD Savings accounts use the same routing numbers as checking accounts.

Online banking and TD Bank app
You can view your routing number through online banking and the TD Bank app under the Account Details section.

What do you usually need your bank routing number for?

Routing Numbers for Domestic/International Wire Transfers

If you have the right bank account and routing number information, anyone can wire funds to your TD Bank account. Wire transfers are helpful if you need to send money between two international bank accounts or if you want to send money with more security than a traditional ACH transfer.

International and domestic wire transfers can only be done in a TD Bank Store. But domestic transfers can be done using TD Bank's transfer feature online.

The transfer option isn't the same as a wire transfer, but it allows you to send money to any account in or out of the TD Bank system located in the United States or Canada without visiting a physical TD Bank.

Have you ever used TD bank's wire transfer service?

TD Bank Transfer Fees
Incoming domestic/international wire: $15
Outbound domestic wire: $30
Outbound international wire: $50

Sending a Domestic Wire
You'll need the following information:

  • Name of the accountholder exactly as it appears on their account
  • Name and address of recipient's bank
  • Routing number of recipient's bank
  • The recipient's account number

International Wire Transfer
You'll need your bank and the recipient's bank SWIFT code. SWIFT codes are the international equivalents of the US routing numbers. They direct the money to the correct bank for international transfers.

For international wires from your TD Bank account, the information you'll use depends on what currency you're wiring. Below is the information you'll need for a US dollar transaction vs. a foreign currency transaction.

  • For international wires sending US Dollars to a TD Bank Account use the following:
    Routing number: 031101266
Address: TD Bank, N.A. Wilmington, Delaware

  • Some banks will only accept a SWIFT code to send a wire. If this happens, use the following information instead:
    SWIFT Code: NRTHUS33XXX
Address: TD BANK, N.A. 6000 Atrium Way Mount Laurel, NJ 08054, USA

  • For an international wire sending a foreign currency to your TD Bank account, use the following:
    Correspondent bank SWIFT code: TDOMCATTTOR
Correspondent bank address: The Toronto Dominion Bank, Toronto, Ontario, Canada, M5k 1A2
    Beneficiary bank SWIFT code: NRTHUS33XXX
Beneficiary bank address: TD Bank, N.A. 6000 Atrium Way, Mt. Laurel, NJ 08054

You'll also need the following to send an international wire:

  • Name of the recipient exactly as it appears on their account
  • Address of the recipient, including city, state/province, and country
  • Name and address of recipient's bank
  • The recipient's account number/IBAN number
  • Amount and currency of transfer
  • SWIFT code of recipient's bank

PRO TIP: When you send or receive money using your bank, you might lose out on a bad exchange rate and pay hidden fees as a result. That's because most banks still use an old system to exchange money. Consider using Wise, which is usually much cheaper.

Breaking down your routing number
The first four digits pertain to the Federal Reserve. The next four digits are unique to your bank. Consider those the bank's address for the Federal Reserve. The final digit is a mathematical calculation of the first eight digits—it's used to prevent check fraud.

Which TD Bank Routing Number Should You Use?

For any domestic money transfer activity excluding wire transfers, use the ABA routing number for the state or region of your TD Bank branch bank.

If you are sending a domestic wire transfer, use routing number 031101266.

For international wires in US dollars (meaning a wire transfer to an account located outside the United States), use either the routing number 031101266, or, if required, the SWIFT code NRTHUS33XXX.

For international wires in a foreign currency, use the SWIFT code TDOMCATTTOR as the correspondent bank and the SWIFT code NRTHUS33XXX as the beneficiary bank.

Is There a Routing Number on Your Debit or Credit Card?
Although your debit card is associated with a bank account, you do not use a routing number for debit card transactions. Routing numbers are only used for transfers directly between bank accounts.

Likewise, credit cards do not have routing numbers since they are not directly linked to any bank account. When you pay your credit card online, you may need to use your bank account routing number to set up the link between your credit card account and checking account, like you would for any other bill.

Bottom Line

When managing your finances, you'll likely need your TD Bank routing number. Keep it handy should you need to set up a direct deposit, automatic payment, or wire transfer. And remember: the number you need may vary based on the type of transaction.
